On January 10, 2025, a group of three skiers cut the upper chute area at Haiyaha Couloir in Rocky Mountain National Park and triggered a wind slab avalanche. One skier entered the area, and the avalanche fractured above him with a 9–14-inch crown. The skier was caught, carried, and briefly buried in the avalanche. The skier dislocated his shoulder while grabbing a tree during the slide. The group was eventually able to leave the slide area safely. They made a report, sharing the lessons they learned and their mistakes.

“We all benefit when people share information about their incidents so that we can learn from them,” the Colorado Avalanche Information Center wrote in a post. “Many factors contribute to avalanche accidents, and there are key takeaways we can all glean from reading these reports and studying those factors.”
