An investigation is ongoing after a skier was found unresponsive at Keystone Ski Area on January 7, 2026. Around noon, a group of skiers found the 59-year-old male guest on “The Grizz,” an advanced “black” rated run in Keystone’s backcountry area. The group of called for help and performed CPR on the man.
When ski patrol arrived, they continued live saving measures and transported the man to a helicopter landing zone where a Flight for Life helicopter brought him to CommonSpirit St. Anthony Summit Hospital. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Sheriff’s department reports that the man was wearing a helmet when he was found. The investigation into his death is ongoing.
