Ms. Black is a welcome addition to the Bloch & Chapleau litigation team. She enjoys and is comfortable in the courtroom arguing cases effectively for her clients. Ms. Black handles a diverse array of cases, including divorces, child custody matters, child support and maintenance disputes, asset and property division, ski injury cases, auto collisions, dog bite cases, real estate disputes, probate, and breach of contract cases. Ms. Black is a strong advocate for her clients. She has a keen understanding of the factual and legal issues involving her clients’ cases and thoroughly prepares each case to obtain a successful resolution.

Ms. Black is a member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, and is admitted to practice before all Colorado state courts. She earned a B.A. in Italian Language and Literature and a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from the University at Buffalo in 2017. Ms. Black graduated college <em>summa cum laude</em> and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received a J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School in 2021, and was admitted to the Colorado Bar that year.

While in law school, Ms. Black clerked at the Boulder District Attorney’s Office, worked as a student attorney with CU’s Sustainable Community Development Clinic, and worked for a corporate/business law firm in Denver. She therefore brings a wide breadth of legal training to her current practice.

Ms. Black joined Bloch &amp; Chapleau as an Associate Attorney in 2021. When she isn’t zealously advocating for her clients, she enjoys skiing, biking, yoga, and reading science fiction.

Trenton J. OngertMr. Ongert’s wide-ranging civil litigation practice includes ski injury law, auto, motorcycle, and trucking accidents, insurance law, slip and falls, dog bites, construction defect, real estate, and contract disputes. He has successfully argued injury cases to the Colorado Court of Appeals, Colorado Supreme Court, and United States 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Ongert is recognized for his expertise in ski injury cases. Since 2015, he has been invited to present a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) class on Colorado Ski Law to members of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations.

Mr. Ongert spent the first five years of his legal career as an insurance defense litigator. He evaluated claims from the perspective of the insurance carrier, where he gained an in-depth understanding of the procedures, ploys, and strategies regularly utilized by insurance companies. In addition to his injury law practice, Mr. Ongert regularly assists clients with probate matters and estate planning. Mr. Ongert also enjoys his family law practice where he assists his clients in all domestic issues and proceedings. Mr. Ongert joined the firm as an Associate in 2010, and became a Member of Bloch & Chapleau, Cates, Ongert in January 2013.

 Mark D. Chapleau, Member, admitted to Illinois bar 1989, and Colorado bar, Federal District Court 1996. Education: University of DePaul (B.A. Music 1983); Northwestern School of Law, Chicago (J.D.1989). Member: Denver and Colorado Bar Association, Colorado Trial Lawyers Associations. Member since January 1999.

Mark has been practicing law for twenty years in both Illinois and Colorado. He practices primarily in the area of men's rights in divorce/family law, personal injury, and civil cases.  He has experience in both trial and Appellate courts. He practices out of both the Denver and Park Meadows offices. Mark is a member of the Colorado Bar Association Family Law section, volunteers for KUSA LawLine 9 answering family law questions and presented a family law clinic for the Denver's Mayor Office of Work Force Development for 5 years. He was a speaker at the 2007 and 2009 annual Colorado family law conference in Breckenridge.

 Sara M. Cates, Member, graduated cum laude and received her J.D. from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas in May of 2008 and was admitted to the Colorado Bar in October 2008. For her undergraduate education, Ms. Cates received her B.A. in Political Science and Criminal Justice from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas in 2005. While pursuing her undergraduate and legal education, Ms. Cates worked for personal injury firms specializing in medical malpractice, toxic tort, and product liability. Ms. Cates was also an intern with the Denver District Attorney’s Office in 2007 where she interned in the County Court division. Ms. Cates joined Bloch & Chapleau, L.L.C. in 2008, shortly after taking the bar exam.

Ms. Cates practices primarily in the areas of personal injury, criminal law and family law. Ms. Cates is an active member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations and is admitted to practice before the State and County Courts in Colorado.  Ms. Cates became a Member of Bloch & Chapleau, LLC in January 2013.

 Mr. Bloch is the Founding Member of Bloch & Chapleau, which was founded more than 35 years ago in 1987. He maintains a diverse practice specializing in ski accidents, personal injury, recreational injuries, auto and motorcycle accidents, business law, and civil litigation. Mr. Bloch has over 35 years of litigation experience representing clients in trials and appeals in both state and federal court. He also maintains an active practice with offices in Denver, as well as in the Vail Valley and Summit County.

Mr. Bloch has represented thousands of injured clients, including people who have been seriously injured in car and motorcycle accidents, ski injuries, and dog bites. He has successfully received jury verdicts where punitive damages were awarded against large corporations for bad conduct including Vail Resorts and State Farm. In Lacerra vs. State Farm the jury found that State Farm committed outrageous conduct against his client. Mr. Bloch also obtained a punitive damages award against Vail Resorts in a chair lift injury case, Aarons v. The Vail Corporation, Inc., which is the only time a jury has assessed punitive damages against Vail Resorts in Colorado to date.

In the past few years, Mr. Bloch has been actively proposing legislation that will hold ski areas more accountable for safety and for the reporting of injuries on the mountain, which will protect the rights of snow riders. His proposed legislation is aptly titled “The Fox Guarding the Henhouse.” Mr. Bloch has been interviewed extensively in the media regarding this issue because it is so important to all Coloradoans who enjoy skiing.

Mr. Bloch is an accomplished skier and snowboarder. He has previously ski raced in the U.S. and Europe, as well as being a professional mogul skier and competing in extreme skiing competitions. As a result, Mr. Bloch has a comprehensive and intuitive understanding of ski and snowboard injuries. He personally investigates all of his ski injury cases by going to the collision sites where his clients were injured. Mr. Bloch has collected millions of dollars for injured snow riders. He has been riding motorcycles for over 40 years, and has also been a professional guide for rafting companies and for his bike tour company, Mile High Bike Tours. Mr. Bloch is a recognized Sifu (teacher) of Wing Chun Kung Fu who has studied martial arts and healing arts for over 40 years.
